The Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC) has hosted Level 400 BSc Information and Communication Technology students from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), offering them a first-hand understanding of business registration processes, compliance requirements, and insolvency administration in Ghana.
The educational visit, organized by the School of Technology and Social Sciences (SoTSS) and led by lecturer Mr. Samuel Odoi Laryea, formed part of efforts to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry practice, exposing students to the operational dynamics of ORC and Ghana’s statutory obligations governing businesses.
Welcoming the delegation, the Registrar of Companies, Mrs. Maame Samma Peprah, introduced students to the Office’s mandate, highlighting its three core functions: business registration, regulatory compliance, and insolvency. She explained how these functions support the lifecycle of businesses from registration, through growth and compliance, to closure or restructuring where necessary.
During the engagement, students received detailed presentations on business registration processes, the different types of business entities, and post-registration obligations such as filing annual returns, renewal of business names, and beneficial ownership disclosure. Sessions also covered the Corporate Insolvency and Restructuring Act, 2020 (Act 1015) and its Amendment Act 1031, which underpins the work of ORC’s Insolvency and Liquidation Services Directorate.
Speaking on behalf of the visiting team, Mr. Laryea expressed appreciation to ORC for the opportunity, noting that such engagements significantly enhance students’ academic and professional development and equip them with skills for entrepreneurship and the broader business environment.
Mrs. Peprah was accompanied by the Head of Administration, Mr. Kwesi Owusu-Abrokwa; Deputy Head of Legal, Mr. Ted Asare; Head of Liquidation and Insolvency, Mr. Jones Ansah; Head of Registration and Licensing, Mrs. Yayra Adjoa Banini; Deputy Director of Corporate Affairs and Communication, Mrs. Josephine Sitsofe Tsekpo; alongside other officers from the Registration, Licensing, Inspection and Compliance Directorates.
